Removing Stubborn Stains

The most common stains arise from substances like coffee, tea, red wine, fruit, acidic foods, oxidizing metals,  ink (from pens and magic markers) and oils (including grease, cooking oil, butter, hand cream or lotion.) If a stain cannot be removed with pH neutral cleaners, use a poultice powder to safely reabsorb stains from stone. (Call Terrastone for poultice powder.)

Following manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines:

1. Mix the poultice powder with ammonia or mineral spirits and, using a wooden or plastic spatula, spread the mixture over the stained area to a thickness of about ¼” to ½”.
2. Cover the stained area with a plastic film, tape the plastic to the surface and seal the edges with masking tape, and leave for 24 to 48 hours to allow the mixture to draw out the stain.
3. Clean the area with mild soap and water.
4. Rinse, wipe and air dry.
5. Repeat this process 3 to 4 times to thoroughly remove the stain.
